Planning: Editing Planning - Ms B
Editing is one of the
vital aspects in the process of film production. In general, editing is done to
provide coherence and continuity to a film. Editing is the part of post
production of film making. The person who does editing is known as the editor.
Good editing can make bad production look good and bad editing can turn a good
production into bad. Through editing, shots are combined in accordance with the
script to create finished movie. A shot must be short enough to fulfill the
purpose. Some of the conventional uses of editing in thrillers are slow
motion, slow paced editing, & fast paced editing. These types of
editing are used especially in Thrillers to create tension. Slow motion
along with slow paced editing are used to build the scene up and emphasizes which creates suspense. On the other hand, fast paced editing is mainly
used to create adrenaline and is used when something big is happening.
Some of the conventional uses of editing in thrillers are:
Fast paced editing
fast paced editing is where a load of clips are shown really fastly which will create suspense amongst the audience.
Slow paced editing
Slow pace editing is when clips are put together at a slower pace and this is to create suspense. Slow pace editing is used so the audience can follow the plot of the thriller but it is also used to signal that something is going to happen.
Montage editing
is the speed of editing, where shots are quickly just posed together to create excitement.
180 rule
imagine a hypothetcal line drawn between two or more actors. the camera must not shoot on the other side of the line and this is because it can confuse the audience and also the shooting will not be consistent.
Conclusion
By knowing all of these different types of different editing skills it will help me and my group make our thriller trailer more effective, and also create a thrill amongst the audience.
